CVE-2014-8594

CVSS v2.0

5.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Xen versions 4.x through 4.4.x
Description The issue is related to the do mmu update function in arch/x86/mm.c, which does not properly restrict updates to only PV page tables. This allows remote PV guests to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference) by leveraging hardware emulation services for HVM guests using Hardware Assisted Paging (HAP).
Recommendations For Xen versions 4.x through 4.4.x, consider restricting access to hardware emulation services for HVM guests using Hardware Assisted Paging (HAP) until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the do mmu update function for PV guests to minimize the risk of exploitation.
