CVE-2014-9090

CVSS v2.0

4.9

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 3.17.5
Description The issue is related to the handling of faults associated with the Stack Segment (SS) segment register in the Linux kernel. Local users can cause a denial of service (panic) by using the modify ldt system call. This can be demonstrated through the sigreturn 32 test in the linux-clock-tests test suite.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions prior to 3.17.5, update to version 3.17.5 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the modify ldt system call to minimize the risk of exploitation.
