Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Java SE version 8u40
Oracle Java SE versions prior to 8u40 are not explicitly mentioned, but based on the information given, it can be inferred that versions prior to 8u40 may be affected.
Description
The issue allows a remote attacker to compromise data confidentiality using the Deployment component. It affects the security of certain SSL/TLS connections, potentially allowing a remote attacker to downgrade the security of these connections. This could enable a man-in-the-middle attack, facilitating brute-force decryption of TLS/SSL traffic between vulnerable clients and servers.
Recommendations
For Java SE version 8u40, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
For versions prior to 8u40, if affected, consider restricting the use of the Deployment component until a patch is available.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the use of RSA temporary keys in non-export RSA key exchange ciphersuites to minimize the risk of exploitation.
