Description The issue is caused by a buffer overflow in the kernel-mode drivers, allowing a local attacker to gain elevated privileges via a crafted application. This can enable the attacker to install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full administrative rights. The attacker must first log on to the system to exploit the vulnerability.
Recommendations For Windows Server 2003 SP2 and R2 SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Windows Vista SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Windows 7 SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Windows 8, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Windows 8.1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Windows RT Gold and 8.1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
