| Vector | AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:C/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Apple OS X versions prior to 10.11
Description
The issue is related to errors in the code of the EFI component in Mac OS X, which can be exploited by a local attacker to modify the firmware using a Thunderbolt interface. This can be achieved by inserting a crafted device, such as an Apple Ethernet Thunderbolt adapter with malicious code in its Option ROM. The exploitation of this issue may allow an attacker to gain unauthorized access to the system.
Recommendations
For Apple OS X versions prior to 10.11, update to version 10.11 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the Thunderbolt interface to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using untrusted devices with the Thunderbolt interface until the issue is resolved.
