9.3

| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Microsoft Word versions 2007 SP3 through 2016
Office versions 2010 SP2
Office Compatibility Pack version SP3
Word Viewer version (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is caused by a buffer overflow in Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Word, Office Compatibility Pack, and Word Viewer. This allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code by using a specially crafted Office document. Exploitation requires a user to open the crafted file with an affected version of Microsoft Office software. If the current user has administrative user rights, an attacker could take control of the affected system, install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.
Recommendations
For Microsoft Word 2007 SP3, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For Office 2010 SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For Word 2010 SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For Word 2013 SP1 and Word 2013 RT SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For Word 2016, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For Office Compatibility Pack SP3, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For Word Viewer, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of specially crafted Office documents until a patch is available.
