CVE-2015-6177

CVSS v2.0

9.3

High

VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Excel versions 2007 SP3 Office Compatibility Pack version SP3 Excel Viewer (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Office document. This is due to the Office software failing to properly handle objects in memory. An attacker who successfully exploits this could run arbitrary code in the context of the current user. If the current user has administrative user rights, the attacker could take control of the affected system, install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights. Exploitation requires a user to open a specially crafted file with an affected version of Microsoft Office software.
Recommendations For Microsoft Excel 2007 SP3, update to a version that properly handles objects in memory to prevent arbitrary code execution. For Office Compatibility Pack SP3, update to a version that properly handles objects in memory to prevent arbitrary code execution. For Excel Viewer, as a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of specially crafted Office documents until a patch is available.
