CVE-2015-8787
CVSS v2.0
10
Critical
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 4.4
Description
The issue is related to errors in pointer dereferencing in the nf nat redirect ipv4 function in the Linux kernel. This can be exploited by a remote attacker to cause a denial of service, potentially leading to a system crash due to a NULL pointer dereference. The exploitation is possible by sending certain IPv4 packets to an incompletely configured interface.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 4.4, update to version 4.4 or later to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to incompletely configured interfaces to minimize the risk of exploitation.
