CVE-2015-8241

CVSS v2.0

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions libxml2 version 2.9.2
Description The issue is caused by the xmlNextChar function in libxml2 not properly checking the state, allowing context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service or obtain sensitive information via crafted XML data. This can result in a heap-based buffer over-read and application crash. A local attacker could also overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application to crash by using a malformed XML file.
Recommendations For libxml2 version 2.9.2, consider disabling the xmlNextChar function as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict the use of crafted XML data to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the xmlNextChar function with untrusted input until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
