Description
The Windows Registry Virtualization feature does not properly restrict changes to virtual stores, allowing local users to gain privileges via a crafted application. This issue enables an attacker to run arbitrary code in the security context of another user's account, potentially allowing them to install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker would first have to log on to the system.
Recommendations
For Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, and Windows RT Gold and 8.1, at the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
