CVE-2015-1681

CVSS v2.0

1.9

Low

VectorAV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Windows versions prior to the fixed version
Description A denial of service issue exists when the system attempts to access a specially crafted .msc file to retrieve icon information and fails to properly validate a destination buffer, resulting in a denial of service. This occurs when Windows tries to process the crafted file, leading to a failure in handling the file's icon information.
Recommendations For all affected versions, apply the fix provided by Microsoft to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to .msc files until a patch is available. Avoid using specially crafted .msc files that could trigger the denial of service condition.
