Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
dosfstools versions prior to 4.0
Description
The issue is related to the set fat function in fat.c, which might allow attackers to corrupt a FAT12 filesystem or cause a denial of service. This can happen when an odd number of clusters is written to the third to last entry on a FAT12 filesystem, triggering an "off-by-two error" that results in an invalid memory read and crash.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 4.0, update to version 4.0 or later to resolve the issue.
