Description
The issue is related to the incorrect handling of reparse points in the Windows operating system, allowing a local attacker to elevate privileges using a specially crafted application. This can enable a local user to gain increased access to the system.
Recommendations
For Windows Vista SP2, consider applying configuration changes to restrict access to sensitive areas of the system until a patch is available.
For Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, Windows RT Gold and 8.1, and Windows 10 Gold and 1511, update to a newer version that includes the fix for this issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of reparse points in the system to minimize the risk of exploitation.
