CVE-2016-0007

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Windows versions prior to Windows 10 1511 Windows Vista SP2 Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1 Windows 7 SP1 Windows 8 Windows 8.1 Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2 Windows RT Gold and 8.1
Description The issue is related to the incorrect handling of reparse points in the Windows operating system, allowing a local attacker to elevate privileges using a specially crafted application. This can enable a local user to gain increased access to the system.
Recommendations For Windows Vista SP2, consider applying configuration changes to restrict access to sensitive areas of the system until a patch is available. For Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, Windows RT Gold and 8.1, and Windows 10 Gold and 1511, update to a newer version that includes the fix for this issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of reparse points in the system to minimize the risk of exploitation.
