Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
FFmpeg versions 2.x
Description
The issue allows remote attackers to conduct cross-origin attacks and read arbitrary files by using the concat protocol in an HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) M3U8 file. This leads to an external HTTP request where the URL string contains the first line of a local file. The vulnerability is related to a lack of protection for service data, which can be exploited by a remote attacker to perform attacks or read arbitrary files.
Recommendations
For FFmpeg version 2.x, consider disabling the use of the concat protocol in HLS M3U8 files until a patch is available. Restrict access to sensitive files and data to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
