| Vector | AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Internet Explorer versions prior to the fixed version
Description
The issue is caused by a buffer overflow. It allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a specially crafted web site. This vulnerability could corrupt memory in such a way that an attacker could execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user. If the current user is logged on with administrative user rights, an attacker who successfully exploited the issue could take control of an affected system, then install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.
Recommendations
For Internet Explorer versions prior to the fixed version, update to the fixed version to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to specially crafted web sites to minimize the risk of exploitation.
