VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Office versions 2007 SP3 through 2016 for Mac Microsoft Word versions 2007 SP3 through 2016 for Mac Word Viewer version not specified Office Compatibility Pack version SP3
Description The issue is caused by a buffer overflow in Microsoft Office software, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Office document. Exploitation of the vulnerabilities requires that a user open a specially crafted file with an affected version of Microsoft Office software. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerabilities could run arbitrary code in the context of the current user. If the current user is logged on with administrative user rights, an attacker could take control of the affected system.
Recommendations For Microsoft Office 2007 SP3, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Office 2010 SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Word 2010 SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Word 2013 SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Word 2013 RT SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Word for Mac 2011, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Word 2016 for Mac, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Office Compatibility Pack SP3, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Word Viewer, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of crafted Office documents until a patch is available.
