Description
The issue is related to a lack of protection for service data in the Wi-Fi component of the Android operating system. It allows a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information using a specially crafted application that provides a MAC address with too few characters. The vulnerable component is located in the service/jni/com android server wifi WifiNative.cpp file.
Recommendations
For Android versions 5.0.x through 5.0.1, update to version 5.0.2 or later.
For Android versions 5.1.x through 5.1.0, update to version 5.1.1 or later.
For Android versions 6.x before 2016-08-01, ensure that the August 2016 security patch is applied.
