CVE-2016-9919

CVSS v2.0

7.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 4.8.12
Description The issue exists due to insufficient input validation in the icmp6 send function. Exploitation of this issue may allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service using a specially crafted fragmented IPv6 packet. The icmp6 send function in net/ipv6/icmp.c omits a certain check of the dst data structure.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions prior to 4.8.12, update to version 4.8.12 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the icmp6 send function to minimize the risk of exploitation.
