CVE-2016-9555
CVSS v2.0
10
Critical
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 4.8.8
Description
The issue is related to the sctp sf ootb function in the Linux kernel, which lacks chunk-length checking for the first chunk. This allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have other impacts via crafted SCTP data. The vulnerability can be exploited to read data beyond the specified buffer, potentially leading to a denial of service or other unspecified effects.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 4.8.8, update to version 4.8.8 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to SCTP data to minimize the risk of exploitation.
