CVE-2016-0133

CVSS v2.0

7.2

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1 Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 Microsoft Windows 8.1 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2 Microsoft Windows RT 8.1 Microsoft Windows 10 Gold and 1511
Description The issue is related to the USB Mass Storage Class driver in Microsoft Windows, which allows physically proximate attackers to execute arbitrary code by inserting a crafted USB device. This is due to the driver's failure to properly validate objects in memory, leading to an elevation of privilege vulnerability. An attacker who successfully exploits this vulnerability could run arbitrary code in kernel mode, enabling them to install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker would first have to have physical access to the system.
Recommendations For Microsoft Windows Vista SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Windows 7 SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Windows 8.1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Windows RT 8.1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Windows 10 Gold and 1511, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting physical access to the system to minimize the risk of exploitation.
