CVE-2016-2335

CVSS v3.1

8.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions p7zip versions 9.20 through 15.05 beta
Description The issue is caused by an out-of-bounds read operation in the CInArchive::ReadFileItem method in Archive/Udf/UdfIn.cpp. This can be exploited by a remote attacker using a specially crafted UDF file, potentially leading to a denial of service or the execution of arbitrary code. The PartitionRef field in the Long Allocation Descriptor of a UDF file is specifically vulnerable to this exploit.
Recommendations For p7zip versions 9.20 through 15.05 beta, consider disabling the CInArchive::ReadFileItem method until a patch is available to prevent potential exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
