CVSS v3.1
5.1

| Vector | AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 4.4.1
Description
The issue is related to the snd timer interrupt function in sound/core/timer.c, which does not properly maintain a certain linked list. This allows local users to cause a denial of service, resulting in a race condition and system crash, via a crafted ioctl call.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 4.4.1, update to version 4.4.1 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the snd timer interrupt function to minimize the risk of exploitation.
