Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 4.5.5
Description
The issue is related to the BPF subsystem in the Linux kernel, which mishandles reference counts. This can be exploited by local users to cause a denial of service (use-after-free) or possibly have other unspecified impacts via a crafted application. The issue is particularly relevant on systems with more than 32 Gb of memory, where it is related to the program reference count, or on 1 Tb systems, where it is related to the map reference count.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 4.5.5, update to version 4.5.5 or later to resolve the issue.
