Description
A difficult to exploit vulnerability in the Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit component of Oracle Java SE allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and can result in unauthorized ability to cause a partial denial of service of Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit. This vulnerability can be exploited through sandboxed Java Web Start applications and sandboxed Java applets, or by supplying data to APIs in the specified component without using sandboxed Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets.
Recommendations
For Java SE versions 6u161, 7u151, 8u144 and 9, update to a version that contains a fix for this issue.
For Java SE Embedded version 8u144, update to a version that contains a fix for this issue.
For JRockit version R28.3.15, update to a version that contains a fix for this issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the Serialization component to minimize the risk of exploitation.
Avoid using sandboxed Java Web Start applications and sandboxed Java applets until the issue is resolved.
