Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Java SE versions 6u131, 7u121, and 8u112
Java SE Embedded version 8u111
Description
The issue is related to a lack of protection for service data in the Java Platform's Networking component. This allows a remote attacker to gain unauthorized read access to data by exploiting the vulnerability through network packets. The vulnerability can be exploited by an unauthenticated attacker with network access via multiple protocols, but successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker. This vulnerability applies to Java deployments that load and run untrusted code and rely on the Java sandbox for security, such as clients running sandboxed Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets.
Recommendations
For Java SE versions 6u131, 7u121, and 8u112, update to a version that contains the fix for this vulnerability.
For Java SE Embedded version 8u111, update to a version that contains the fix for this vulnerability.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the Networking component until a patch is available.
Avoid using the affected Java deployments in environments where untrusted code is executed, and rely on the Java sandbox for security.
