CVE-2017-12837
CVSS v3.1
7.5
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Perl 5 versions prior to 5.24.3-RC1
Perl 5.26.x versions prior to 5.26.1-RC1
Description
The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow in the S regatom function in regcomp.c. This allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write) via a regular expression with a 'N{}' escape and the case-insensitive modifier.
Recommendations
For Perl 5 versions prior to 5.24.3-RC1, update to version 5.24.3-RC1 or later to resolve the issue.
For Perl 5.26.x versions prior to 5.26.1-RC1, update to version 5.26.1-RC1 or later to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of the 'N{}' escape in regular expressions with the case-insensitive modifier until a patch is available.
