| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
macOS versions prior to 10.12.1
Description
The issue is related to the Core Image component and involves a buffer overflow in memory, which can be exploited by a remote attacker using a specially crafted JPEG file. This can lead to the execution of arbitrary code or cause a denial of service, resulting in memory corruption and application crash.
Recommendations
For macOS versions prior to 10.12.1, update to version 10.12.1 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of the Core Image component with untrusted JPEG files until the update is applied. Restrict access to the Core Image component to minimize the risk of exploitation.
