Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Metview version 4.7.3
Description
The issue concerns a lack of validation for strings before launching a program specified by the
BROWSER environment variable, potentially allowing remote attackers to conduct argument-injection attacks via a crafted URL. It is noted that the code to access this environment variable is not enabled in the shipped product.Recommendations
For Metview version 4.7.3, consider disabling the access to the
BROWSER environment variable as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict the use of potentially vulnerable functions related to URL handling to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.Special Elements Injection
