CVE-2017-5485

CVSS v3.1

9.8

Critical

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions tcpdump versions prior to 4.9.0
Description The issue is related to a buffer overflow in the ISO CLNS parser. This overflow is caused by improper bounds checking, allowing a remote attacker to send an overly long argument and potentially execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application to crash. The buffer overflow is specifically located in the lookup nsap() function in addrtoname.c and the clnp print() function in print-isoclns.c.
Recommendations For versions prior to 4.9.0, update to version 4.9.0 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the ISO CLNS parser to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the clnp print() function in the print-isoclns.c file until the issue is resolved.
