Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 4.9.10
Description
The issue allows attackers to cause a denial of service, potentially leading to a system crash. This can be achieved through either an application making crafted system calls or possibly through IPv4 traffic with invalid IP options. The
ipv4 pktinfo prepare function in net/ipv4/ip sockglue.c is the vulnerable component.Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 4.9.10, update to version 4.9.10 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
ipv4 pktinfo prepare function until a patch is available.Fix
