CVE-2017-8310

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions VideoLAN VLC versions 2.2.x
Description The issue is related to a heap out-of-bound read in the CreateHtmlSubtitle function, caused by a missing check of string termination. This allows attackers to read data beyond allocated memory, potentially crashing the process and causing a denial of service. The attack can be carried out via a crafted subtitles file.
Recommendations For VideoLAN VLC versions 2.2.x, update to a version that includes a fix for the CreateHtmlSubtitle function to prevent the heap out-of-bound read.
