CVE-2017-9778

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions GNU Debugger (GDB) versions 8.0 and earlier
Description The issue arises from GNU Debugger's failure to detect a negative length field in a DWARF section. This can be exploited by a malformed section in an ELF binary or a core file, causing GDB to repeatedly allocate memory until a process limit is reached, potentially hindering analysis efforts, such as those involving malware.
Recommendations For GNU Debugger (GDB) versions 8.0 and earlier, at the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
