Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
MySQL Server versions 5.5.54 and earlier
MySQL Server versions 5.6.35 and earlier
MySQL Server versions 5.7.17 and earlier
Description
The issue is related to inadequate access control in the MySQL Server component of Oracle MySQL, specifically in the Server: DML subcomponent. This vulnerability can be easily exploited by a high-privileged attacker with network access via multiple protocols, allowing them to compromise the MySQL Server. Successful attacks can result in the unauthorized ability to cause the server to hang or crash repeatedly, leading to a complete denial of service (DOS).
Recommendations
For MySQL Server versions 5.5.54 and earlier, update to a version later than 5.5.54 to resolve the issue.
For MySQL Server versions 5.6.35 and earlier, update to a version later than 5.6.35 to resolve the issue.
For MySQL Server versions 5.7.17 and earlier, update to a version later than 5.7.17 to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting network access to the MySQL Server to minimize the risk of exploitation.
