Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
MySQL Server versions 5.5.54 and earlier
MySQL Server versions 5.6.35 and earlier
MySQL Server versions 5.7.17 and earlier
Description
The vulnerability in the MySQL Server component of Oracle MySQL is related to inadequate access control. It can be exploited by a remote attacker to cause the system to hang or crash using network packets. The vulnerability is easily exploitable and allows a low-privileged attacker with network access to compromise the MySQL Server via multiple protocols. Successful attacks can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash of the MySQL Server.
Recommendations
For MySQL Server versions 5.5.54 and earlier, update to a version later than 5.5.54 to resolve the issue.
For MySQL Server versions 5.6.35 and earlier, update to a version later than 5.6.35 to resolve the issue.
For MySQL Server versions 5.7.17 and earlier, update to a version later than 5.7.17 to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting network access to the MySQL Server to minimize the risk of exploitation.
