CVE-2017-0037

CVSS v3.1

8.1

High

VectorAV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 10 through 11 Microsoft Edge (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue is caused by a type confusion problem in the Layout::MultiColumnBoxBuilder::HandleColumnBreakOnColumnSpanningElement function in mshtml.dll. This allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via vectors involving a crafted Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) token sequence and crafted JavaScript code that operates on a TH element. The vulnerability could corrupt memory in such a way that an attacker could execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user. If the current user is logged on with administrative user rights, the attacker could take control of an affected system.
Recommendations For Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 10 through 11, update to a version that is not affected by this issue. For Microsoft Edge, at the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
