High

VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1 Windows 7 SP1 Windows 8.1 Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2 Windows RT 8.1 Windows 10 versions 1511 through 1703 Windows Server 2016
Description The issue arises from the improper handling of executable files and shares during rename operations, allowing a remote code execution. This can be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system.
Recommendations For Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, update the operating system to a newer version. For Windows 7 SP1, apply the necessary security patches. For Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, and Windows RT 8.1, consider disabling the Windows Shell until a patch is available. For Windows 10 versions 1511 through 1703, and Windows Server 2016, restrict access to the Windows Shell to minimize the risk of exploitation.
