CVSS v2.0
7.5
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Android for MSM versions (affected versions not specified)
QRD Android versions (affected versions not specified)
Firefox OS for MSM versions (affected versions not specified)
All Android releases from CAF using the Linux kernel versions (affected versions not specified)
Description:
The issue is related to the processing of sparse images, where uninitialized heap memory can potentially be flashed due to the lack of validation of sparse image block header size. This can allow a remote attacker to impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information.
Recommendations:
For Android for MSM, consider implementing validation for sparse image block header sizes to prevent potential exploitation.
For QRD Android, restrict access to sparse image processing until a proper validation mechanism is in place.
For Firefox OS for MSM, disable the use of sparse images until the issue is resolved.
For all Android releases from CAF using the Linux kernel, apply configuration changes to enhance the validation of sparse image block headers.
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
