CVE-2017-17784

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: GIMP version 2.8.22
Description: The issue is related to a heap-based buffer over-read in the load image function in plug-ins/common/file-gbr.c of the GIMP graphic editor, specifically in the gbr import parser. This is caused by mishandling of UTF-8 data. Exploitation of this issue may allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service, compromise data integrity, and confidentiality.
Recommendations: For GIMP version 2.8.22, consider disabling the load image function in the gbr import parser as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict the use of the gbr import parser to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
