CVSS v2.0

10

Critical

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions tcpdump versions prior to 4.9.3
Description The issue is related to the mishandling of SMB data printing in tcpdump, which can be exploited by a remote attacker to impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information. This is due to insufficient input validation. The vulnerability may allow an attacker to gain unauthorized access to information and disrupt its integrity and availability.
Recommendations For versions prior to 4.9.3, update to version 4.9.3 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of tcpdump to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using tcpdump to analyze SMB data until the issue is resolved.
