7.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions GNU Binutils version 2.29
Description The issue is related to the pe print idata function in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library, which mishandles HintName vector entries. This allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read and application crash) via a crafted PE file. The problem is associated with the bfd getl16 function.
Recommendations For GNU Binutils version 2.29, consider updating to a newer version that addresses this issue, as the current version is affected by a heap-based buffer over-read vulnerability. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
