CVE-2017-12448

CVSS v2.0

10

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions GNU Binutils versions 2.29 and earlier
Description The issue is related to the bfd cache close function in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library, which allows remote attackers to cause a heap use after free and possibly achieve code execution via a crafted nested archive file. This occurs because incorrect functions are called during an attempt to release memory. The problem can be addressed by better input validation in the bfd generic archive p function.
Recommendations For GNU Binutils versions 2.29 and earlier, consider applying better input validation in the bfd generic archive p function in bfd/archive.c as a fix. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
