CVE-2017-17123

CVSS v2.0

7.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: GNU Binutils version 2.29.1
Description: The issue is related to the coff slurp reloc table function in the coffcode.h component of the GNU Binutils library. It allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service, resulting in a NULL pointer dereference and application crash, via a crafted COFF based file. This can be exploited by a remote attacker to disrupt service.
Recommendations: For GNU Binutils version 2.29.1, consider disabling the coff slurp reloc table function as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the coffcode.h component to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
