Description
An issue was discovered in the MTKLogger app with a package name of
com.mediatek.mtklogger, where application components com.mediatek.mtklogger.framework.LogReceiver and com.mediatek.mtklogger.framework.MTKLoggerService are accessible to any application on the device. These components can be used to start and stop logs, including GPS, modem, network, and mobile logs, which are stored in the /sdcard/mtklog directory. The logs contain sensitive information such as GPS coordinates, AT commands, and network captures. The mobile log contains the Android log, but it is not accessible to third-party apps due to Android 4.1 restrictions.Recommendations
For LG devices using the MTK chipset with L(5.0/5.1) software, consider disabling the
com.mediatek.mtklogger.framework.LogReceiver and com.mediatek.mtklogger.framework.MTKLoggerService components to prevent unauthorized access to logs.
For LG devices using the MTK chipset with M(6.0/6.0.1) software, restrict access to the /sdcard/mtklog directory to minimize the risk of log exposure.
For LG devices using the MTK chipset with N(7.0) software, avoid using the android.content.Intent object to communicate with the MTKLogger app until a patch is available.
