CVE-2016-10208

CVSS v2.0

4.9

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 4.9.8
Description The issue is related to the ext4 fill super function in the Linux kernel, which does not properly validate meta block groups. This allows physically proximate attackers to cause a denial of service, resulting in an out-of-bounds read and system crash, via a crafted ext4 image.
Recommendations For versions prior to 4.9.8, update to version 4.9.8 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to untrusted ext4 images to minimize the risk of exploitation.
