CVE-2016-8574

CVSS v3.1

9.8

Critical

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions tcpdump versions prior to 4.9.0
Description The issue is related to buffer overflows in tcpdump, specifically in the FRF.15 parser and the ISO CLNS parser. The buffer overflow in the FRF.15 parser occurs in the frf15 print() function in print-fr.c. Another buffer overflow is caused by improper bounds checking by the ISO CLNS parser in the clnp print() function in print-isoclns.c. This could allow a remote attacker to overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application to crash by sending an overly long argument.
Recommendations For versions prior to 4.9.0, update to version 4.9.0 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the frf15 print() and clnp print() functions until a patch is available.
