CVE-2018-12233

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions through 4.17.1
Description A memory corruption bug in JFS can be triggered by calling setxattr twice with two different extended attribute names on the same file. This issue can be triggered by an unprivileged user with the ability to create files and execute programs. A kmalloc call is incorrect, leading to slab-out-of-bounds in jfs xattr.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions through 4.17.1, as a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the setxattr function until a patch is available. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
