CVE-2018-14295

CVSS v3.1

8.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Foxit PhantomPDF version 9.1.5096
Description This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations. User interaction is required, where the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The flaw exists within the handling of PDF documents, specifically when parsing shading patterns, due to improper validation of user-supplied data, resulting in an integer overflow before allocating a buffer. This can be leveraged to execute code under the context of the current process.
Recommendations For Foxit PhantomPDF version 9.1.5096, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the handling of PDF documents with shading patterns until a patch is available. Restrict access to untrusted PDF files to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
