CVE-2018-1093

CVSS v2.0

7.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions through 4.15.15
Description The issue is related to the ext4 valid block bitmap function in the Linux kernel, which allows attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and system crash) via a crafted ext4 image. This is because the balloc.c and ialloc.c files do not validate bitmap block numbers, leading to a buffer over-read in memory. The exploitation of this issue can allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service using a specially crafted ext4 file system image.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions through 4.15.15, update to a version later than 4.15.15 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of ext4 file systems until a patch is available. Avoid using crafted ext4 images that could exploit this issue.
