Description
A difficult to exploit vulnerability in the Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit component of Oracle Java SE allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit. Successful attacks can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit accessible data and unauthorized ability to cause a partial denial of service of Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit. This vulnerability applies to client and server deployment of Java and can be exploited through sandboxed Java Web Start applications and sandboxed Java applets, or by supplying data to APIs in the specified Component without using sandboxed Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets.
Recommendations
For Java SE versions 6u171, 7u161, 8u152 and 9.0.1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For Java SE Embedded version 8u151, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For JRockit version R28.3.16, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the JNDI component until a patch is available.
Avoid using the vulnerable JNDI component in the affected Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit versions until the issue is resolved.
