Description
A difficult to exploit vulnerability in the Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit component of Oracle Java SE allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Java SE, Java SE Embedded, JRockit. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and may significantly impact additional products. The vulnerability can be exploited through sandboxed Java Web Start applications and sandboxed Java applets, or by supplying data to APIs in the specified component without using sandboxed Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets, such as through a web service.
Recommendations
For Java SE versions 6u171, 7u161, 8u152 and 9.0.1, update to a version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
For Java SE Embedded version 8u151, update to a version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
For JRockit version R28.3.16, update to a version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the JNDI component until a patch is available.
Avoid using sandboxed Java Web Start applications and sandboxed Java applets until the issue is resolved.
